The Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) recently announced the start of the regularization of more than 200 properties in different states with the aim of building new homes. Martà Batres, head of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers, revealed that they will seek for FOVISSSTE to regain the authority to construct, rehabilitate, and rent homes.
The proposed reform in the ISSSTE Law includes the freezing of interest rates on housing loans, as part of the housing plan promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum. FOVISSSTE joins Infonavit and the National Housing Commission to offer Mexicans the possibility of renting an apartment before purchasing it.
The housing program includes rental options aimed at young people aged between 18 and 30, with properties adapted to their incomes and close to work and educational areas. The construction of one million homes is planned during Sheinbaum's term, half financed by Infonavit and the rest provided by Conavi to non-right holders.
Additionally, 250,000 loans will be granted for home improvements, such as repairs, renovations, and expansions. Infonavit has frozen some loans to facilitate their payment, and the construction of 165,000 new homes and improvements is expected by 2025 as part of these initiatives.
